Engineering Syllabus

QuEST provides a supplementary training programme for engineering apprentices. It is a substantial bolt-on programme taught by industry experts. QuEST also offers short modular options designed for those further on in their career, such as engineering graduates or options for targeted upskilling.

The core syllabus covers the following areas:

Foundational Skills

Foundational Skills

Developing foundational mechanical engineering skills through practical training in machining, TIG welding, technical drawing, assembly, and metrology, preparing apprentices to manufacture, test, and support precision-engineered systems for emerging quantum technologies.

Electrical and Electronic

Electrical and Electronic

Introducing fundamental electrical and electronic engineering principles, developing practical skills in soldering, cable construction, test equipment use, fault-finding, PCB layout, and basic system design.

Vacuum

Vacuum

Introducing practical knowledge of vacuum technology, including vacuum systems, diagnostics, fault-finding, cleanliness, and safety practices essential for maintaining high-performance scientific and industrial equipment.

Cryogenics

Cryogenics

Practical training in cryogenics, covering safe handling, system design, thermodynamics, and the operation of cryogenic equipment used in scientific and industrial applications.

High Pressure and Purity Gas

High Pressure and Purity Gas

Developing knowledge and practical skills in gas systems, including gas properties, safety, compliance, system assembly, leak detection, and industry-standard joining and testing techniques.
